Man Buries Car To Defraud Insurer, Forgets To Close Mouth
An Akron, Ohio man was sentenced to a year in prison for defrauding Progressive, his auto insurer, by falsely reporting his car had been stolen and collecting $20,000. In reality, the car's engine had blown up, and rather than pay repair bills, he rented a backhoe and buried the car on his father's property. He was caught because he decided to move the car, afraid that a friend who knew what he had done would tell police. A second backhoe he rented became damaged and stuck in the mud and water as he unsuccessfully tried to dig up the car.
